Group lessons are limited to six students, and may be shortened to
30-45 minutes if fewer than 3 riders participate at the instructor’s
discretion.
Private lessons are offered by appointment only.
Lessons involve arranging horse’s schedules well in advance, and we
require students to advise their instructor if they are not planning
to attend their usual lesson. No-shows will be billed at the full
rate, as will cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance.
All students must have a completed and signed release on file prior
to working with any horse, and must abide by all rules and policies
maintained by the Stanford Red Barn. Failure to comply will result
in dismissal from the program with no refund.
All students must wear an ASTM-SEI certified riding helmet and
appropriate clothing for riding lessons. See handout for guidelines
on dress and equipment suggestions.
Students should arrive at the barn at least 30 minutes prior to their lesson time in order to prepare themselves and their horses. Grooming and tacking horses is an important part of horsemanship and riding, and is vital for both the horse’s well-being and the rider’s safety. Students should also remain for 30-45 minutes after the lesson to put away their horse. Horses not put away clean, groomed and cooled out to the instructor’s satisfaction may result in a rider’s being asked to leave the program after the first incident.
Students who arrive after their lesson has started may not be
admitted, as it is disruptive to the overall structure of the lesson
and is distracting to the instructor and other students.
Riders must be properly attired to ride and work around horses.
Please download and observe our requirements for riding clothes and
equipment. Failure to comply with these rules will result in your
ineligibility to participate.
