After years of working as a lifeguard at his local Philadelphia swimming pool, Lou achieved his dream of moving to California in 2005. He did not realize that Malibu was pretty far away from Stanford but he still got to meet Governor Schwarzenegger in person, one of his childhood dreams coming true.

At Stanford, Lou has been a Beckman Medical Scholar and a HHMI research fellow. His days are unevenly split between medical school, the lab, and the gym and/or the swimming pool. Lou is a quiet person who rarely attends parties. In the lab, Lou practises his surgery and pathology skills on a mouse model of liver cancer and spends his spare time in the cold room purifying proteins.

After his MD/PhD, his residency, and his fellowship, Lou may eventually get a real job in pediatrics, just before retiring.
