Join the mailing list!
We welcome Romanians who are or have been affiliated with Stanford in any way, and people with demonstrable interests in RSA activities (i.e. live in the Bay Area and come to RSA's parties; etc). Most of the list's discussions are in Romanian, but posts in English are common, especially in the form of forwarded event announcements. To join our mailing list, subscribe to rsamembers@lists.stanford.edu following the instructions below, then send the list an e-mail in which you shortly describe yourself. If you have a webpage, add a link from it to the RSA website. If you are or have been affiliated with Stanford you can ask the webmaster to add your info to the RSA Directory.
List subscription is Open (any address may request subscription). The list itself will be Private (as opposed to Public, which displays the mailing list name to anyone who queries the listserver for addresses) in an effort to shield it from inappropriate advertising messages, etc.
Spam robots and usual malware can however capture email addresses of members and use them to fake headers in messages to the list. To know that the message has been sent by a human, please prepend by hand a "RSA:" at the beginning of your email's subject line.

How do I subscribe to/ unsubscribe from the RSA mailing list?
How to subscribe:
Send an email to majordomo@lists.stanford.edu. The body of the message should read:
subscribe rsamembers@lists.stanford.edu
If you want to subscribe to an address other than the one you're currently logged in at, (for example, you're logged in at home, but want your work email address to be the subscription point,) your message should read:
subscribe rsamembers@lists.stanford.edu gica_ion@hotmail.com
Be sure to include all the pertinent domain information, as the server at Stanford will reject addresses not fully qualified.
Users should subscribe themselves without supplying an address in the command whenever possible. Requests that supply an address will be forwarded to the list owner for approval even if that list has an open subscription policy.
If a user has a problem subscribing, the user should contact the list owner at
-owner@lists.stanford.edu, not the server maintainers. If the list owner cannot resolve the issue, the list owner will elevate the problem to the service maintainers. How to unsubscribe:
Send an email to majordomo@lists.stanford.edu. The body of the message should read:
unsubscribe rsamembers@lists.stanford.edu
i). If the email address you are sending the command from matches the one subscribed to the list, everything should work fine. Here are a few reasons your unsubscribe command might fail:
- Problem: You subscribed to the list using a different email address (e.g. you@leland.stanford.edu instead of you@stanford.edu or a hotmail/yahoo account) so the system tells you that you're not on the list. Solution: Contact the list owner by adding a "-owner" to the list name (e.g. the owner of a list called chicken@lists.stanford.edu can be reached at chicken-owner@lists.stanford.edu). The list owner will be able to run a "who" for the list and forward you the results (which you can scan for one of your alternate email addresses) or the owner can just do the unsubscription for you (assuming you ask nicely).
- Problem: The system reports that your address matches multiple list members so your unsubscription fails. Solution: Contact majordomo-owner@lists.stanford.edu and report the problem and your duplicate entries will be removed. Be sure to include the list name and the email address that's listed more than once.
- Problem: You get a message back that says ">>>> This is a multi-part message in MIME format." That means that your email has too much extra formatting. This is common for Hotmail accounts. Solution: You need to change your email settings to disable as many extra features as possible and choose plain text formatting instead of MIME-formatting and HTML wherever you can. The simpler your email looks, the more likely your command will work.
ii). If you have tried all of the above and still cannot unsubscribe from a list, contact the list owner or majordomo-owner@lists.stanford.edu and describe your problem in as much detail as you can. Forwarding error messages from majordomo as part of your email is a very good idea.
What's the posting code policy when sending a message on the mailing list ?
The RSA mailing list goal is informing members about social affairs and events within RSA. The <RSA> heading is reserved for official annoucements (activities, issues, and sports). Except the staff and people arranging social/sport activities, please do not begin your email with this heading (as it is implying that the content of the email represents the position of RSA).
Personal correspondences and irrelevant sales/advertisements are not welcomed.
Besides trying to comply with the aforementioned simple guidelines there are no restrictions. Please feel free to distribute any kind of email you think will be of general interest to RSA members.
I don't seem to get anymore RSA emails. But I haven't unsubscribed myself. What's going on ?
Most often this happens when mails can no loger reach you for an extended period of time (e.g. your mail disk quota exceeds the limit and therefore your mail server can no longer process your emails ; or your email server has shut down permanently). In situations like these, the RSA mailing list administrator has unsubscribed you from the list. What can you do ? Please email the current mailing list administrator to resolve this problem.
I still have trouble subscribing/unsubscribing/posting on the RSA mailing list. What can I do ?
Please email the RSA mailing list administrator with any question you have or about any help you need.
