Clinical Treatment Physical Therapist
08/18/2006

An exciting opportunity exists for a Physical Therapist to participate in a Clinical Trial investigating recovery of motor function in adults with hemiparesis post-stroke. This is a Phase III Clinical trial of rehabilitation testing the standard functional task practice approach in combination with dynamic, high-intensity resistance training. A previous cycle of this line of investigation was successful and produced meaningful, positive results. Accordingly, the goal of this cycle of investigation is to refine the treatment and identify key mechanisms of motor recovery.

The position involves treatment of patient-subjects in the context of the clinical trial protocol. Treatment algorithms have been developed and can be readily learned. However, the successful candidate will build on an existing foundation of clinical experience in adult neurology and neuro-rehabilitation.

The opportunity exists to participate in the research process, i.e., data reduction and analysis, including contribution to abstract presentations and manuscripts.

The Clinical Treatment Physical Therapist position is 60% FTEE and involves work on Mon/Wed/Fri during regular business hours at the Rehabilitation Research & Development Center at VA Palo Alto Health Care System. The Rehab R&D Center has a longstanding history of innovative research in basic and applied topics including biomechanics, motor control, rehabilitation, and rehabilitation engineering. The Principal Investigator for this project is Dr. Carolynn Patten who directs a dynamic, multi-disciplinary research team with the goal of understanding disordered motor control in neuro-pathology and identifying key targets for recovery of motor function.

The position requires licensure as a Physical Therapist and US Citizenship. For inquiries or applications please contact:
