Healthy Subjects Needed for a Research Study on the Effects of Walking on Skeletal Health

Are you a healthy person between the ages of 50 and 79?

You could be elegible to take part in a study to understand how walking affects the health of the skeleton. You are eligible to participate if your primary form of exercise is walking, or low impact activities such as gardening, yard work, golf, bird watching, swimming, or bicycling. Participation requires two visits to the Palo Alto VA Medical Center, about 1 week apart. Each visit will last approximately 2 hours.

Participants will receive:
- a bone density scan and report
- a dietary calcium assessment
- a pedometyer or step counter

Please contact Barbara Elspas at 650/849-1252 for information on participating in this study.
