Form, Forces and Function of the Iliotibial Band - My intent in this reseach is to investigate the role of the iliotibial band (ITB) in 3 areas of applied research: tissue loading in gait, developmental skeletal growth and running injuries.

A model estimating tissue loading during gait is the baseline for all this research. This model combines existing research from cross disciplines to better understand the tissue properties and sites of attachments of this complex structure. Combining this model with gait data generates force potentials that may underlie the development of the lower limb architecture.

In adults with established skeletons, ITB injuries are almost exclusively the domain of distance runners. With the above work in hand, injury predicotrs and injury recovery protocols can be improved.
