The objective of the class is to introduce Stanford students to the computing resources available on campus. Hence, the syllabus for the class is not strictly defined. Apart from a few required topics, I will teach you anything that you are interested in, given that it can be covered in about an hour. So, please let me know what topics that you are interested in and we will try to work something out.
The required topics that we will cover are as follow:
Some of the other optional topics:
Do drop me a line if there's anything else that you might be interested in
The workload for this class is minimal. The main aim is to get you acquianted with technology available to you at Stanford. Due to the hands on nature of this class, attendance is compulsory. You are allowed a single unexcused absence. Beyond that, you will have to write a two page paper on the topic covered in the class you missed as a make up. If something urgent comes up, come talk to me and we will work something out.
There are no weekly assignments for this class. There is, however, a small final project that might take you at the most 2-4 hours to complete. The final project basically entails you building a webpage that resides on your afs space or some other technology related project that might have been covered in class. If you are taking PWR or any similar classes, and have an assignment that includes technology, that can be double submitted for this class.
