the first of four children, I was born in mexico city, and moved to seattle at the age of 3. became a cribbage champion in 2nd grade. had a run-in with firefighters in 4th grade. (not a very friendly run-in). played the trumpet for three years in middle school, somewhat unwillingly. however, did receive the chance to play at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley, Seattle's best jazz club. (opportunity was available prolly more because of our musical director's connections than our middle-school capabilities). received a B in freshman english. promptly lost out in the race for valedictorian. joined cross-country, wrestling and track teams, first time involved in organized sports. would later become the captain of all three. started attending Stanford U, the first time anybody in my family, immediate and otherwise, went to college.
