Palermo is a quaint little restaurant on University Avenue that features authentic Sicilian cuisine. Named after the largest city in Sicily, Palermo features a diverse menu that includes an assortment of pastas and sauces, seafood, meat, and poultry. It's interior features all kinds of photographs from the towns and beaches of Sicily (and one photo of a Stanford football game) that prompt passionate responses from the staff when asked about. Our waiter delivered a five-minute monologue just on this one photo from his hometown. The appetizers are delicious, including the artichoke Messina, fresh baby artichoke hearts braised with garlic, olive oil, and, parmesan cheese. This dish is a specialty from Messina, another city located in Sicily. The Caprese appetizer is also quite excellent. For an entrée, try any of the pastas if you are a pasta lover. I highly recommend the Rigatoni meatball as well as the linguini puttanesca. There are so many pastas to choose from, both on the main menu and the special menu, which also features an assortment of dishes. I didn't venture into dishes other than pasta because the menu seems to be focused on pasta, but based on the quality of the pasta dishes, I'm sure their other selections are quite tasty as well. I didn't go into the restaurant with high expectations, but the small, personalized atmosphere and the high quality of food won me over. I highly recommend Palermo, whether on a date or with a large group.
