Sign up:
Anybody who wants to use the kitchen please read the kitchen policies carefully. If you then decide to apply, please email rhea.liu@stanford.edu with subject “kitchen sign up” before noon on Sunday, Sep. 26th, 2004. Results will be announced by 5pm on the same day and the kitchen keys will be distributed in the evening. In your email, please state your FULL name, email address, room number, whether you want to use fridges and whether you need space in the kitchen storage room (this is for kitchen members to store their utensils and it’s FREE).

Remark: If you only need to use microwaves, you don’t have to sign up. There are three microwaves in the kitchen storage room and they are FREE to use for all CroMem residents. The room number is 309, across the hallway from kitchen.
Assignment:
Because of the limited space, we only have about 50 spots available. If there are more than 50 applications, we have to run a lottery to decide who gets it. The deadline above is for the big assignment at the beginning of academic year 2004-05, you can apply throughout the year as long as there are open spots. Simply contact Rhea at rhea.liu@stanford.edu for details.
Costs:
1. Each kitchen member pays a deposit $150, partially refundable.
2. The kitchen will cost $10/quarter. This cost covers the common cooking supplies (salt, oil, sauces, spices, dish washing liquid, sponge, foil, wrap...)
3. Due to limited fridge space, the fridge space will cost $10/quater.
4. The cost for replacing a lost key is $25 (You have to pay at the time of replacement).
5. The fine for not cleaning or not shopping for the kitchen as scheduled is $20 each time.
6. If you cause any damage to the kitchen due to negligence, e.g., leave unattended pans on the burner, a fine will occur according to severity.
* All costs will be deducted from the kitchen deposit at the end unless specified above.
Duties:
1. Each kitchen member will need to do shopping for the kitchen at least once to restock the kitchen supplies. You need to sign up for a time and the KC will give you the shopping list. You will be reimbursed for the shopping after it is done.
2. Each kitchen member will need to do general cleaning/reorganization at least once. This includes putting things back to the right places according to the labels, washing dirty dishes in the sink, etc. You need to sign up for a time and the KC will email you with the detailed instructions.
Responsibilities:
1. You are responsible for keeping the kitchen clean. This includes cleaning up all dishes, pots, pans, cooking utensils... after you use them and put them in the designated space.
2. Do not block the sink or leave a big mess on the table or the stove. Clean up after you use them or a fine may be imposed.
3. Label food in the freezer with your name, room number and the purchase date.
The freezer will be checked regularly to prevent old food piled up. Anything without a label will be thrown away.
4. If any kitchen supply runs low, write it down on the shopping list on the freezers' door. They will be restocked at the next shopping schedule. Please also check the supply cupboard first before writing the request.
5. If there is free food, put it in the free food box. Food left on the bench or on the tables will be thrown away.
6. Sometimes strangers find their way into the kitchen and make a mess. While you are in the kitchen, don't let any stranger enter the kitchen, and please make sure the kitchen door is closed when you leave.
General rules:
1. No dishes or cooking utensils left on the bench.
2. No unwashed dishes/pots/pans/utensils left in or around the sink.
3. No metal objects in the microwave.
4. Dry and put things back where they belong after use.
5. Do not take things that belong to the kitchen to outside the kitchen.
6. Close the kitchen door when you leave.
7. No strangers in the kitchen.
8. No sharing of kitchen key.
Guest policy:
You can occasionally bring guests in the kitchen provided that they observe the rules and clean up after using the kitchen. You must accompany the guests all the time in the kitchen. Large group is requested to bring their own supplies (oil, sauces, spices...), remember that all kitchen members pay for that. This is a privilege and can be withdrawn at any time. Do not abuse.
