Overview of the position

Two fellows to be hired
September 23, 2013 – June 6, 2014; orientation in May 2013 for those not abroad
Stipend for the academic year is $4,000
10 hours per week of work
Reporting to Scotty McLennan, Dean for Religious Life, and the SAR Executive Committee
No religious affiliation or experience is required to apply for this position

About the Office for Religious Life (ORL) and Stanford Associated Religions (SAR):

The mission of the Office for Religious Life (ORL), within the President’s and Provost’s Office, is “to guide, nurture and enhance spiritual, religious and ethical life within the Stanford University community.”

The ORL oversees and provides support for Stanford Associated Religions (SAR), some forty religious and philosophical organizations invited to offer their spiritual services to the campus. The SAR Executive Committee is broadly representative of SAR groups (although not totally inclusive), and it provides interfaith programming for, and coordination of, SAR groups.

Duties

Facilitate joint programming between SAR groups.
Keep a list of SAR interfaith events updated and available online and in the CIRCLE
Liaison with ORL staff as they relate to SAR groups
Attend all quarterly mandatory SAR meetings; help in preparations and follow-up
Schedule and staff the SAR Executive Committee meetings (e.g., assist to prepare agendas and minutes)
Maintain SAR email
Create and send weekly email updates of interfaith events (SAR Announce)
Help connect the President’s Challenge activities to SAR member organizations
Staff reception desk in the CIRCLE for a minimum of 2 hours each week
Other duties as assigned

Examples of tasks completed on a regular basis

Meet weekly with Dean Scotty McLennan to brainstorm and track progress
Meet weekly with co-fellow to brainstorm, plan, and complete tasks.
Create weekly newsletter with events from SAR email digests
Facilitate interactions between SAR groups on various events

Interfaith dorm panels
Bi-weekly interfaith conversation
Multifaith Music Mosaic, a performance of music from various faith traditions
Interfaith service between SAR groups
