Introducing Sophie Walewijk...

My reserach focuses on biofouling of reverse osmosis membranes. I study how biolayers at the surface of membranes affect membrane salt and organics rejection. This understanding will contribute to the creation of better membranes, the decrease in cleaning events during plant operation, and the decrease in energy consumption by reverse osmosis plants.

I also worked on the biotransformation of chlorinated ethenes both in Toronto and at Stanford.

For fun, I do triathlons and I work on water sanitation projects in developing nations.
