San Jose Sharks vs. Calgary Flames! Thursday 04/05/2007 at 7:00pm CA Contact: Adam (agrossma@stanford.edu) Oh take me where the hockey players face off down the rink. And the Stanley Cup is all filled up for the chaps who win the drink. Now the final flick of the hockey stick and a one gigantic scream - The puck is in! The home team wins! At the good old hockey game! Oh, the good old hockey game, is the best game you can name. And the best game you can name is the good old hockey game! (Stompin' Tom Connors) April 5, the second last game of the NHL's regular season. The San Jose Sharks are going to be facing the Calgary Flames. With the Flames fighting for the last playoff spot, this game could very well decide the match-up for the first round of the playoffs! Come cheer on your favourite team, wear your Team Canada jerseys or Sharks gear and enjoy the game! Tickets are normally $29 plus service charges, but Rains has secured them at a price of $20 for Rains residents, and $26 for non-Rains guests. This is less then the price of the cheapest seats in the Shark Tank if you get them through Ticketmaster! To reserve your ticket, please email Adam (agrossma@stanford.edu). He'll give you instructions for payment to secure your spot! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Learn to dance West Coast Swing! Tuesday 04/10/2007 at 8:00pm CA Contact: Adam (agrossma@stanford.edu) West Coast Swing is a partner dance that's got a very elastic and improvisational style. It's rooted in Lindy Hop, but has since evolved separately into its own dance. We've enlisted a fantastic teacher from the Bay Area, Edwin Li, to introduce you to this wonderful dance in a *9-week series*, every Tuesday night at 8pm, starting April 10, and going until the end of spring quarter. We will have open dancing for you to practice your newfound skills until at least 11pm, and we'll have some snacks to keep your energy level high. This kind of opportunity on campus is very rare. No dancing experience is necessary. If you can walk forwards and backwards, and you like to groove, then you can do this dance! Sign-ups will be restricted to Rains residents only (plus one guest) until 11:59pm, Wednesday, April 4. After that, we're opening it up to everybody else. The entire series will cost $25 per Rains resident, and $35 for non-Rains folks, due at the first class. Compare this to $20 for a single hour workshop elsewhere. Sign up by sending an email to Adam at agrossma@stanford.edu with your name, apartment number, email address, and whether you will be leading or following. There is limited space in this class, so sign up quickly! Edwin Li is Champion West Coast Swing (WCS) dancer from the San Francisco Bay Area with a joyfully infectious style that is fluid and musically expressive, based on precise footwork, body control, and momentum. Dancing WCS for 15 years, he has won national acclaim in both choreographed and improvised WCS competitions. He has taught workshops as an invited teacher from one end of the U.S.to the other, and is highly regarded as both a group and private lesson instructor. His teaching reflects his style and emphasizes both fun and technique while providing students with tools to discover, develop, and share the fun and art of WCS. If you want to meet Edwin before the class, he'll be teaching at Steppin' Out Productions in Sunnyvale this weekend. For more information, check out: http://wcs.edwinli.com/ http://www.steppinoutproductions.com/ (WCS every Monday night) http://www.twoleftfeet.com/ (WCS every Friday night) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_coast_swing_%28dance%29 http://216.55.128.31/fastpack/swingdiego_vid/ (dance videos) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.
