Rains Backpacking Trip! No experience necessary! Friday 05/23/2008 at 8:00am CA Contact: Adam (agrossma@stanford.edu) Let's prevent any confusion - this is asking about interest and availability for a Rains backpacking trip in June/July. We have to give a concrete date/time for the purposes of e-drops. RSVP instructions are at the bottom. Here's the plan: we will assemble a group of people (maybe several groups if there's enough interest), and head off into the woods somewhere in California for a weekend of fun, backpacking, and seeing some beautiful scenery. No experience is necessary! All you really need are sturdy hiking shoes/boots, clothes that can get dirty, and everything else can be rented cheaply on campus. The destination, route, and date are yet to be determined, and will ultimately be up to those who come along on this trip. The general plan will be to leave campus Friday afternoon/evening (could be pushed to early Saturday morning for a close enough destination), camp near the start of our trail, backpack into the woods Saturday, camp out Saturday night, backpack out on Sunday, and drive back to campus. We will return sometime between 8-11pm Sunday night. Rains will pay for the food on the trip. There would also be a pre-trip meeting sometime the week before the trip to finalize plans. Again, you do not need to have any backpacking experience to come on this trip. I would love to introduce the wilderness to people who've never done more than a day hike, and I would equally love to go out with experienced trekkers to learn some of their tips and tricks. If enough people respond, we can do both a beginner and a more advanced trip, or two mixed trips. If you are at all interested, please send me (Adam - agrossma@stanford.edu) an email with the following information: Name: Email: Backpacking experience (none is fine!): Hiking experience (none is fine!): General fitness level: Can you drive, and how many people + gear: Which of the following weekends are you able to come? June 6-8, June 13-15, June 20-22, June 27-29, July 4-6 (we could leave July 3 and make it a 3 day trip!) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Rains goes to Sykes (with Redwood!) Friday 05/23/2008 at 5:00pm CA Contact: Shandor (sgd@stanford.edu) Hey There Campers! Sam and I are putting together (Gasp!) a Sykes trip for this weekend. We\'ll be battling the memorial day crowds for space in the hot springs, so it\'s sure to be a blast! For the uninitiated, Sykes is in the Ventana wilderness, a beautiful area near Big Sur. It involves a moderate difficulty 10 mile hike each way. There\'s hot springs at the end, so make sure to bring a bathing suit. We\'ll have a pre-trip meeting on Wednesday at 8:00pm at the Redwood gear shed to sort out whoalls coming (Bring a checkbook for rentals!). Rough plan is below, Rains and Redwood will be covering dinner Friday and Saturday, the rest is up to you! If you have any questions, email me (sgd@) for more information! The plan is: Head out Friday at ~5. Camp that night in Andrew Molera walk-in sites. Dinner is chili (veg or chicken chili) Hike in to Sykes Saturday Dinner is burritos (veg or chicken) Hike out Sunday, depending on when you want to be back on campus. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Block Party III - bbq and volleyball tournament Friday 05/30/2008 at 5:00pm CA Contact: Peter (pkimball@stanford.edu) Block Party I and II were wildly successful events put on by the Rains and EV CAs with support from GLO, GSC, and GSPB. This year, the tradition continues with Block Party III, featuring the return of DJ Osvaldo, the outdoor lighting tower, catered BBQ, and volleyball tournament. We'll also see the addition of a beverage tasting competition, a volleyball serving contest, and the debut of Jimmy V's Sports Cafe as the BBQ caterers. BBQ starts at 6pm. Volleyball tournament registration from 7:00 - 7:30pm. Volleyball tournament play begins at 7:30pm. DJ and party go until 1am. If the free food & drink don't convince you to go, perhaps these photos will: See http://rains.stanford.edu/photos/BlockParty2007/IMG_5081-01.jpg --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.
