Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk Sunday 04/27/2008 at 9:30am CA Contact: Alice (atryan@stanford.edu) Walks are fun and a great way to bring our community and friends together to support a very worthwhile cause. Rains will take care of everything, so all you have to worry about is showing up on time. We will meet at Willis Lounge at 9:30am to bike over to the event. Registration goes from 9:30-10:30am on the Dean's Lawn next to the Clark Center and the Medical school (so it is a pretty long walk and we shouldn't drive to a walk on campus)! Anyway, if you don't have a bike, or would prefer to meet us at the walk site, please email atryan@stanford for further instructions. The walk itself is a 5k and the event organizers expect that it will take about an hour to complete, putting you back at Rains around noon. If you would like a shirt, please RSVP to Alice (atryan@stanford) by Thursday, April 24th. Even if you miss the deadline, please feel free to join us on Sunday! It should be a beautiful day. As a result of this time- efficient and focused approach, participants will experience greater success during job talks, when writing grant requests or proposals, when communicating with the media, and during informal conversations with professional and personal contacts. The I-RITE/I-SPEAK workshop will be held daily, September 8-12, during the SGSI from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon. Since peer feedback is an important element of the workshop, participants are expected to take part in all sessions. For the first session, attendees should bring a 250-word draft summary of their research, written for a lay audience. We will refine this first draft during the first meeting and part of the second; we will focus on public speaking skills during the second and third classes. The last two classes will be devoted to strategies for understanding and communicating with journalists and other media personnel. For more information, go to http://workshop.stanford.edu/irite
