Come watch the womens championship - Stanford vs Tennessee starting at
5:30 in Willis Lounge.  We'll have beer and eanabs on hand, and we'll
be ordering pizza during the game.  Go Card!

2. Olympic Torch Relay

This Wednesday the Olympic torch makes its only stop in the states,
and it's in San Francisco!  An ongoing tradition from 766 B.C. has
been to ignite the torch at the ancient site in Olympia, Greece. From
March 24th until the start of August the torch will travel around the
world through cities, oceans, and even Mt. Everest.  The relay should
prove quite exciting, as numerous protests have already obstructed the
torch's progress in Europe.  So come out and enjoy the symbol of
world's greatest sporting event, and a very energetic atmosphere.  

Meet in Willis Lounge at 11 am and we'll Marguerite and Caltrain up to
the city (or meet at the Palo Alto Caltrain station at 11:30).  We
should be back to campus around 4 pm (though you're free to return
whenever is convenient).  Rains will cover your fare into the city.

3. Movie Night: Dragon Wars

According to the New York Times: "It is such a breathless, delirious
stew, it's impossible not to be entertained, provided -- this is
crucial -- you have a sense of humor."

An ancient Korean legend forms the basis for this action tale of
Armageddon. In present-day Los Angeles, reporter Ethan Kendrick (Jason
Behr) investigates a series of inexplicable disasters plaguing the
city. Fortunately for the citizenry, legend has it that Ethan is in
fact the incarnation of an ancient warrior destined to team with the
modern counterpart (Amanda Brooks) of his eternal beloved to protect
the City of Angels from imminent doom.

This year, the Elections Commission will be providing voters numerous
opportunities to connect with the candidates, slates and special fee
groups that will be appearing on the ASSU Spring Ballot.  The
Elections Commission encourages all voters to attend these events as
they will be the best opportunity of truly connecting with those
interested in representing the student body during the 2008-2009
academic year.  If you have any questions at any time, please contact

White Plaza Rendezvous - This is your last chance to meet all
candidates, slates and special fee groups before Campaign Week 2008

Take the 6:24 Palo Alto Caltrain- free train ride courtesy of Rains!
It's dollar night, so entrance, soda, beer and hotdogs are all only
$1! Also, you don't want to miss Journey Unauthorized- a sweet cover
band! Place some bets or just enjoy the excitement. We will meet at
the Palo Alto Caltrain station on the northbound side (farther from
campus) at 6:15 and we'll pay your train ticket for the 6:24 train to
Bay Meadows in Hillsdale. We'll come back around 9 or 10 pm.  To get
to the train station: Take the Marguerite: 6:10 Palm Drive express,
5:44 (preferable) or the 6:02 (cuts it awfully close) B-Line from
Bowdoin/Campus Drive or the A-line at 5:49 from 217 Rains on Bowdoin
or at Pine Hill. Check

6. Karate and Self-Defense Class and Lunch!!

Come join your neighbors in Hacienda Commons for a Sunday morning
workout hosted by the Stanford Karate Club, on April 13th, featuring
traditional karate conditioning that includes strength, endurance and
balance exercises combined with an interactive self-defense workshop
centered around bag work and partner work. Dress comfortably and come
ready to break a sweat.

Bring a friend, stay for lunch. This event starts at 11am and will
end at 12:30 at which point lunch will be served, courtesy of your
friendly neighborhood CA! Bottled water provided for the workout.

Market for a free lunch!  Pick from authentic Mexican tacos and
tamales (Judy's personal favorite: made-to-order steak taco on a fresh
corn tortilla and a pork tamale with extra mild salsa.  Seriously.  So
good), an Indian wrap with fresh naan, savory or sweet crepes, or even
a hot cup of fair-trade coffee and a pastry.  

You're guaranteed to be wowed by the selection of food and the live
music.  You'll also feel good about supporting local farmers and
buying organic.  :)

Just meet Judy in front of the live band playing at noon (12 PM) to
get a $5 bill towards your lunch and tips on where to eat.  The market
is so close, you can just bike or walk over there yourself from Rains.

8. Ram's Head Theatrical Society's Thoroughly Modern Millie

Ram's Head Theatrical Society, Stanford's oldest and largest
completely student-run theatrical organization, puts on an awesome
Spring show every year. This Spring, the show is "Thorough Modern
Millie," synopsis below:

It's the Roaring Twenties!!  Jazz is bursting onto the scene, class
barriers are dissolving, and gender roles are being turned on their
ears.  Against this backdrop of faster cars and shorter skirts,
small-town Millie Dillmount comes to New York City hoping to learn how
the other half lives.  But what starts out as a bold declaration of
independence quickly turns into a whirlwind of money, romance,
kidnapping, and tap-dancing stenographers, all leading to hilarious
hijinks and a surprise ending that could happen only in New York!

Tickets are originally $10 for students plus handling fee, but Rains
residents get a ticket for only $5! Only 20 tickets available, so RSVP

10. Asian Liver Center's LIVERight 2008 5K Run/Walk

The Asian Liver Center's LIVERight 2008 5K Run/Walk is coming up on
Saturday, May 10 at San Francisco Golden Gate Park. The event is meant
to raise awareness about the high incidence of hepatitis B and liver
cancer among Asian Americans. Food, games, performances, and prizes
available.  

Registration begins at 8 AM, the race begins at 9 AM. Registration fee

Bay to Breakers
When: Sunday May 18th @ 8 am
Where: San Francisco


Bay to Breakers is here again. For those of you who did it with
Rains last year, or have done it in the past - you know what a
fun/crazy race it is. The course description is below - it's a
12k race through San Francisco. You can run it, walk it, dress up
in a costume or in nothing at all (yep there are definitely naked
people running it).

If you are interested, email Jenny by no later than WEDNESDAY MARCH
19th (jerhart@stanford.edu) to get instructions on how to register
and get some reimbursement.

Registration is $44, of which Rains will subsidize $10 each. Race
fees include race entry, chip timing with a collectible souvenir
chip (the second in a series of five leading to the 100-year
anniversary), participant T-shirt, printable on-line finishers
certificate & entrance to ING Footstock.

You will be responsible for getting yourself to San Francisco
(CalTrain is a very easy way to do this - they have special trains
that run early to get you there).

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
ING Bay to Breakers is a 12K (7.46 miles) course. From sea level at
the Embarcadero the course rises steeply along Hayes Street Hill.
Around the 2.5-mile mark runners climb an 11.15% grade between
Fillmore and Steiner, bringing them to the highest point in the
race, approximately 215 feet above sea level. The remainder of the
course gradually flows alongside the Panhandle and through Golden
Gate Park.
