MRains March Madness Mayhem & Mania Sunday 03/16/2008 at 8:00am CA Contact: Nate (nan4@stanford.edu) Have you ever wanted to march in madness? I mean, have you ever wanted to win a March Madness pool? We've finally reached the best month of the year and it's time to get a piece of all the action. This is your chance to take home the grand prize (1st prize - a new basketball, prizes for 2nd and 3rd place as well!) and win bragging rights over all of your sports enthusiast friends that finish below you. Best of all, it's free and easy. All it requires is for you to spend a few minutes filling out a simple bracket at the link below when they become available on the evening of Sunday, March 16th and before the games start on Thursday, March 20th. Check below for the scoring system and the link to join. Also, be sure to check out the concurrent Celebrity Fantasy Brackets for your fix of non-basketball madness. The rules are simple. For each game you pick correctly you will get a round score multiplied by the seed as follows: Round 1: 1 Round 2: 2 Round 3: 4 Round 4: 8 Round 5: 16 Championship: 32 Thus if you pick a 12 seed to win in the first round, you get 12 points but if you pick them to win in the second round, you get 24 points. http://www.sportsline.com/fantasy/universal Fillout the following: Sport: mayhem League abbreviation: rains2008 Password: stanford Please email Nate (nan4@stanford.edu) if you have any questions. Rains Relay For Life Team Friday 04/11/2008 at 5:00pm CA Contact: John (tenhoeve@stanford.edu) Relay for life is a fun-filled overnight activity that mobilizes communities across the country to celebrate survivorship, as well as to remember those who lost their lives to cancer. Through teams that pledge to walk for 24 hours, Relay for Life raises money for the fight against cancer. This is an American Cancer Society signature event. This year, Rains will sponsor a team for the Stanford Relay For Life event, which takes place beginning on April 11th, at 5:00 PM. Just to clarify, each person does not have to walk the whole 24 hours - just one person from the team has to be walking at all times. Please email John Ten Hoeve (tenhoeve@stanford.edu) if you are interested in being a part of this team, or if you have any questions. Around the 2.5-mile mark runners climb an 11.15% grade between Fillmore and Steiner, bringing them to the highest point in the race, approximately 215 feet above sea level. The remainder of the course gradually flows alongside the Panhandle and through Golden Gate Park. See http://www.ingbaytobreakers.com/main.html
