Represent Rains in the first Stanford IM Bowling Tournament!  The
competition is single elimination (4 person teams) and takes place on
Friday the 22nd.  Best of all, this event will be FREE for Rains

3. Swan Lake, San Jose Ballet!!

Performed by the San Jose Ballet, Swan Lake is one of the most
beautiful classical ballets.  The ballet will start at 8pm on
Saturday, February 23rd. It will be held at the Performing Arts Center
in San Jose.  The cost will be $15 for Rains residents, and $20 for
non-Rains guests. Face value of the ticket is $30 and we have seats in
the 3rd and 4th row of the balcony!  

In order to reserve your spot, please RSVP to Alice
(atryan@stanford.edu).  In your email, please include if you would be
willing to drive, and if so, how many other people you could bring. In
the event that we don't get enough drivers, drivers will be given
priority. 

From Ballet San Jose:
Dennis Nahat's version of one of the greatest romantic ballets ever
written features over 135 costumes and beautiful scenery from David
Guthrie. Danced to a live performance by Symphony Silicon Valley, the
romantic tale follows Prince Siegfried as he rescues his beloved
Princess Odette from the wicked Baron von Rothbart who has cast a
spell on the young beauty and turned her into the Swan Queen. Using
additional works of Tchaikovsky, Nahat's prologue highlights the
villainous nature of Rothbart by delving into the source of his evil.

1895 by MARIUS PETIPA and LEV IVANOV)

4. 80th Annual Academy Awards

Like movies?  Like the chance to win free stuff?  Ecstatic that the
writer's strike is likely coming to an end?  All of these, along with
many others, are great reasons to come out and watch the 80th annual
Academy Awards with your neighbors.  The viewing will take place at
5:00pm on Sunday, February 24th in Willis Lounge.  While we're
watching the red carpet and introduction, feel free to fill out a
ballot on who you think will win each category.  The top entrants will
win prizes!  We will also be featuring a variety of snacks to keep you
going through emotional highs and lows of the night.  Hope you can
make it!

5. Stanford-Cal Basketball Game: Get FREE Courtside seats

Come experience the excitement of Pac-10 basketball without being a
season pass holder!  Cheer on the #9 Cardinal against our rivals Cal
this Sunday @ 6 PM.  There will be a special Red Zone Rally starting
at 4:30 PM and Axe presentation at half-time.  Here's how it works:

If you already own a 6th man t-shirt, you get into the game for FREE:
  Just pay the $10 ticket price and get reimbursed from CA Judy at the
t-shirt distribution table.

If you DO NOT own a 6th man t-shirt, you only pay $10:
  For only $10, you get courtside seats AND a official 6th man
t-shirt. Just buy your $10 ticket and $10 t-shirt, and get reimbursed
a fatty $10 bill from CA Judy.

Please note that you must wear the 6th man t-shirt for entrance to the
student section.  Non-Rains residents are welcome to come and pay $10
per ticket and $10 per t-shirt ($20 total). 

$10 tickets will be sold at the Maples Ticketing Window, which is
located at Maples Pavilion on the side across from Arrillaga Family
Sports Center (http://campus-map.stanford.edu/index.cfm?ID=09-300).
Then, go to the Northeast entrance of Maples Pavilion to pick up your
FREE t-shirt (or $10 for non-Rains residents) from CA Judy.  Cash
only, please.  Tickets and shirts will be distributed at a first-come,
first-serve basis between 4:30-6 PM.  REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR STANFORD
ID CARD, WHICH YOU WILL NEED IN ORDER TO PURCHASE YOUR TICKET.  You
are allowed to purchase 1 ticket per SUID.

Why wait in line?  You can purchase your $10 single-game ticket
online at www.gostanford.com.  Follow the link to 'Student Tickets'
under Men's Basketball to order them online (you'll need to sign in
with your SUID).  Make sure to print out and bring the tickets to the
game.

Insider tip: Arrive early to get your pick of t-shirt size, a better
seat on the floor, and enjoy the free food that will be handed out to
those waiting in line!  Ticket/shirt distribution will end PROMPTLY at
6 PM, so don't be late.  :)

Want to relive the 'Macarena'?  Does your 'Baby Got Back'?  Or do you 
need to say 'Bye, Bye, Bye' to you beau?  Feel like you gotta but 
just can't seem to have 'Faith, Fa-Faith, Fa-Faith'?  Well, 'this is 
my Confession' .... WE HAVE GOT THE PARTY FOR YOU!!!

Bring your love for music from the 80's, 90's, and 00's, as we 
celebrate the Leap Year.  Let's sing like we do in the shower and 
dance like no one's watching!!  

Since Leap Day is the "Day that Never Happened", you can let loose

7. Monterey Bay Aquarium

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is one of the most respected aquariums in
the world.  The new "Wild About Otters" exhibit just opened and its
getting rave reviews! Among the 35,000 plants and animals representing
623 species in the aquarium, we'll see the world's first live indoor
kelp forest, a giant octopus, sharks and my personal favorite,
"Jellies: Living Art."  Its located about 1.5 hours drive south from
Stanford.  We'll head out at 10AM sharp, and be back early evening.

Normally costing $23, tickets will only be $12.95 for Rains residents,
$17.95 for non-Rains guests. Non-drivers, please plan on bringing
$8-$10 on the day of to help share gas and parking costs.

RSVP to Alexia (lea210@stanford.edu) your name and whether you are
able to drive. If you RSVP for friends, please include their email
addresses. There are 15 spots available. If necessary, drivers will be
given priority.  Once your request is confirmed, you'll be given
instructions on where to drop off your deposit check.  Your spot is
not secure until your check is received.

8. Stanford Treeathlon

The Fourth Annual Stanford Treeathlon makes its off-campus debut 
this year at the Port of Redwood City in Redwood City, California. 
The race is sprint distance: 500 meter open-water swim, 20 kilometer 
bike and 5 kilometer run (in that order).
More information about the race, as well as registration, can be

Early registration is available until February 17th, and 
registration closes on February 27th.

If you don't want to get wet, but still want to be involved, you can

Rains will not be coordinating a group to this event, but feel free

9. San Jose Sharks take on the Montreal Canadiens!

Come out on Monday, March 3 and watch the San Jose Sharks take
on the original six Montreal Canadiens. We only have limited numbers
of tickets to the game, so email Adam (agrossma@stanford.edu) to
receive payment and reservation instructions.   When you reply, be
sure to indicate whether you can drive and how many others you can
take with you.  I will have to give priority to drivers if not enough
people volunteer.  The cost per ticket is $18 for Rains residents, $25
for non-Rains residents (the tickets have a face value of $32).  If
there is lots of demand from Rains folks, we will have to restrict the
number of guests we can take.

This game is going to be amazing! Go Habs! Or, if you prefer, Go
Sharks!

10. Cirque du Soleil - Kooza!

Come see the world renowned acrobat show, Cirque du Soleil's Kooza! 
We'll be buying student price tickets, which will be subsidized to 
$30 for Rains residents and $35 for non-Rains guests. RSVP to Julie

your reply whether or not you can drive. Tickets will be reserved on 
a first-come, first-serve basis to people who submit their deposits, 
and priority may be given to drivers. Because these are discounted 
tickets, please note that our seats will be positioned slightly to 
the side of the stage. We'll be leaving campus at 6:15 PM on 3/5 and 
should return by 11:30 PM.
