Movie Night: Hotel Rwanda Wednesday 11/07/2007 at 9:00pm CA Contact: Christina (cmester@stanford.edu) For the movie night on Nov 7th, we are going to show Hotel Rwanda, as usual at 9pm in Willis. We'll also provide snacks and drinks. As the country of Rwanda descended into madness, one man made a promise to protect the family he loved--and ended up finding the courage to save over 1200 people. Paul Rusesabagina (Don Cheadle), a hotel manager in Rwanda, secretly used his position and intelligence to shelter over a thousand refugees during the genocide crisis. While the rest of the world closed its eyes, Paul opened his heart to prove that the human spirit can make us stronger than we'd ever imagine. Thursday 11/08/2007 at 9:00pm CA Contact: Fraser (fraser@stanford.edu) If you don't know what Mafia is, here is a description from Wikipedia: Mafia is a party game modeling a battle between an informed minority and an uninformed majority. During a basic game, players are divided into two teams: 'Mafia members', who know each other; and 'townspeople', who know only the number of Mafia amongst them. The goal of both teams is to eliminate each other. Don't worry if you've never played it before, you'll learn it quickly. Also, we'll provide some yummy snacks. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Rains proudly presents S P E E D D A T I N G ! Saturday 11/10/2007 at 8:00pm CA Contact: Julie (jlitze@stanford.edu) ~~~THE APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR THIS EVENT HAS PASSED~~~ Rains proudly presents... * * * S P E E D D A T I N G * * * who says there's no dating at stanford? now you can date 20 people at the same time, and you won't get slapped! ~~ SATURDAY NOVEMBER 10 @ 8PM ~~ (limited attendance, so sign up below!) -looking for new ways to meet fun, interesting people? -sick of the same old scene at bars & parties? LET RAINS HELP YOU OUT!! THERE ARE 7,700+ GRADUATE STUDENTS AT STANFORD - HOW WILL YOU EVER MEET THEM ALL?!? Speed dating is a non-contact sport that is gaining popularity. For the second year in a row, it comes to RAINS with grace, style, and, well, a little bit of wine. Here's the low-down: 20 fine young men, 20 lovely ladies, and 3 minutes of love at first sight - or not. After meeting your matches, pick the ones you like, and ditch the ones you didn't - no strings attached! Your information is dished only to those you choose - totally safe, totally hectic, and TOTALLY FUN!!! Attendance will be limited to ensure equal numbers of each sex - to participate, fill out the form online at: http://silverprincess.com/phpsurveyor/index.php?sid=1 BY FRIDAY NOVEMBER 2nd 5PM!! If you are chosen, you will be notified by email by Monday, November 5th. Participants will be chosen on a first-come, first-serve basis and in a manner to promote diversity. INCREASE YOUR CHANCE OF GETTING A SPOT: the success of speed dating is highly dependent on gender balance, so if you apply with a friend of the opposite sex (this especially goes for the guys - drag out your cute, shy, friends-that-are-girls-but-not-your-"girlfriend"), you will have higher odds of getting in! And ladies, if you apply with another girl friend, your chance of getting in is higher, too!
