Rains Persimmon Picking! Thursday, November 5 at 17:00 CA Contact: Sarah (shouts@stanford.edu) Come to the Hood persimmon grove (between buildings 212-214) at 5pm on Thursday 11/5 and we'll pick some persimmons! As the low-hanging fruit has mostly been snagged, we'll have some ladders and step stools to get you those few feet higher. If you don't know what a persimmon is, come find out! We'll explain how long you should wait before eating them, and those daring few can experience the bizarre sensation of eating an unripe persimmon... --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Organically Healthy Happy Hour! Friday, November 6 at 17:00 CA Contact: Kira (kmgreco@stanford.edu) Hello, friends. I personally love eating 'healthy' things. Why, as a pseudo-vegan, I kind of have to! Please join me for light drinks and snacks this Friday, as I take organic to the second floor. Look forward to organic cheeses, sundries, dried fruitsies, crackers, fresh fruit juices, and beer. Also look forward to poser healthy snacks, such as veggie chips and soy dessert products. Did anyone say organic chocolate? Am I a one? I think so. Tofu? While healthily munching, strengthen your lungs and vocal chords with some chat. Let's show the peninsula that we too can snob traditionally processed foods. Friday evening will come only once this week. 2raw4y'all. Peace and Love. Volunteering at local produce benefit garden Saturday, November 7 at 08:30 CA Contact: Joanna (jl3@stanford.edu) Our Volunteer to Grow event from last spring was so much fun that we had to do it again. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at Willis for a quick breakfast, then carpool to a garden in Palo Alto where organic produce is grown for area food banks. Fresh veggies are hard for food banks to come by, but so important for nutrition for those in need, so this is a great cause. Plus it's fun to play outside! Signups *really* help me to give the organization an estimated turnout... so if you could, please sign up so I can get a rough estimate: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=s5y68kSec7yUPQzx7gu10Q_3d_3d --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. bRains Trivia Night! Wednesday, November 11 at 20:00 CA Contact: Kira (kmgreco@stanford.edu) Mates. Maties. And Mr. Understood. On Wednesday the 11, join Brendan, Kira and Just'n in Willis Lounge at 8pm to register your team of four for the first quarterly Rains bRains Trivia Night! Parley with your neighbors to wrangle up a team, or rock up to Willis at 8pm if you're a free agent or need more team maties. This event will be similar to myriad events at many British-inspired pubs found around the world. The first trivia question will fire out at half eight (8:30pm), so don't be late! Teams will compete for the ultimate prize, which will be selected from a pair of ultimate prizes by the outcome of a coin toss. The left over ultimate prize will go to the team of four with the best name. If any team even thinks about using a phone or the internet, we will be so angry. Therefore, come to our event! (Pumpkin) Pie eating contest Wednesday, November 11 at 20:15 CA Contact: Gary (gshambat@stanford.edu) More to come! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Brewfest Announcement! Friday, November 20 at 08:00 CA Contact: Gary (gshambat@stanford.edu) Attention all Rains home beer brewers! Now is your chance to show off what you are made of--now is your chance to show off what your BEER is made of. We are currently organizing Rains beer brewers interested in brewing a batch of lager, ale, cider, moonshine (not really), etc.. for the brewfest taking place late in November. Because brewing requires planning and scheduling we want to get you on board now and get started in time for the festival, which will have food, EANABS, and excitement also. Get in touch with me, GARY (gshambat@gmail.com), if you are interested. Beer you later. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. A Chanticleer Christmas Holiday Concert Thursday, December 10 at 20:00 CA Contact: Jeanine (jlfrey@stanford.edu) Rains is headed to see a Chanticleer Christmas Holiday Concert on Dec 10th at 8pm. Tickets are only $5 for Rains residents ($10 for non- residents). If interested, please send Jeanine an email at jlfrey@stanford.edu. We have only 20 tickets, so the first 20 responses will get first dibs on the tickets. More information about the Concert is below.... "Share the joy of the season with family and friends as the Grammy- winning “orchestra of voices” performs its beloved holiday program amid the rich acoustics and ornate interior of Memorial Church. Hailed as “the world’s reigning male chorus” (The New Yorker), Chanticleer brings its trademark precision and inspiration to centuries of holiday repertoire, including rareties of Gregorian chant, American gospel classics, and plenty of everyone’s favorite Christmas carols."
