Constitution October 2004
Article I: Name
Queer/Straight Alliance (QSA).
Article II: Statement of Purpose
QSA is a coalition of queer, questioning, and allied students that provides an avenue for queer activism to everyone at Stanford. We work to realize queer rights on campus through workshops that deconstruct queer rights both at Stanford and more globally as well as demonstrate how students can support them. These political activities will be coupled with social gatherings welcoming to all students that foster queer-friendly environments for interaction and activism. Such social gatherings range from more frequent events in dorms to an annual QSA party. QSA focuses on making the queer communities on campus visible to first year students in particular and encouraging discussion among those who are not familiar with queer activism or queer rights. Our ultimate goal is a campus environment where queer issues are part of everyday consciousness.
Article III: Membership
All registered students are welcome to QSA, including graduate students. No fees or tryouts are involved; the only criteria are interest and respect for fellow members.
Article IV: Leaders
QSA has a president and a treasurer. Majority elections will be held in Winter quarter to select leaders to serve through the following fall. Leaders can be removed at any time by full consensus among group members present at a special session set up and advertised as a meeting concerning the leadership of the group. All members are eligible for leadership if they express interest and have demonstrated a commitment to the group’s activities.
Article V: Dissolution of Organization
In the sad event of QSA’s demise, all funds are to be reabsorbed into the ASSU and all tangible assets will be given to the LGBT-CRC to be made available to other QVSOs.
Article VI: Procedure to Amend Constitution
Constitution can be changed by decision of the president and signed consent of other officers.
