Ed: "What are the CBB plans for CCCC this year?

Marvin Diogenes: This year will be the 20th anniversary of Humor Night, to be held on
Thursday, March 17 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. CBB has played Humor Night for the last four years, and we're looking forward to this year's appearance.

Ed: How exciting!

Marvin Diogenes: The 20th anniversary has inspired a spike in our usual archival work, focusing our energy on rediscovering rhet/comp songs from 1985, the debut year of Humor Night.

Ed: What are you doing in preparation for the big night?

The PWR version of the CBB rocks on at the September 2004 PWR Party: Marvin sings while musicians jam – Left to right: Clyde Moneyhun, of the original group; Bump Halbritter; and Erik Turkman; as well as some unidentified woman dancing in foreground. Read Marvin’s take on this new crew.

Marvin Diogenes: So far we've unearthed "Writing for Nothing," the Dire Straits' cynical take on the freewriting craze fueled by Peter Elbow, as well as Don Henley's
spirited "All They Want to Do Is Rant," written when he was teaching logic and argument at USC. We'll also be reprising a standard from the CBB song list, Bruce Springsteen's anthem "Born in the MLA."

Ed. Could you share some musical selections with your online fans?

Marvin Diogenes: Thanks to Jonah Willihnganz, we now have recordings from the PWR-CBB gig at the program party in September. [LISTEN HERE]

Ed. I know you released a CD with CBB years ago. Are there plans to cut a second album?

Marvin Diogenes: Well, to paraphrase Mick and Keith’s lament about the grading load at the London School of Economics, “Time’s Not on Our Side,” but we hope to work on a new cd as soon as class size is reduced to 3.
