Program
on Sufism In Search of
Essence
- Kresge Auditorium -
About 550 people from the
Campus and around the Bay
Area showed up to celebrate
the way of Sufism. The
program consisted of
lectures, reading poetry,
zikr, practice on
meditation and finally a
reception with Persian
sweets and tea.
- February 27, 1997 - General
Election Meeting - Bechtel
I-Center
- Around 25 members
participated to get to know
the candidates for 1997-98
officers. There were a
total of eight candidates,
three of them running for
presidency.
- March 8, 1997 -
Iranian
Miniature Painting
Exhibit by Mohammad
Hourian.
- Opening night -
Tresidder Union, second
floor.
About 50 people showed up
and enjoyed the beauty of
art. The exhibit will
remain open till April 8,
1997.
- March 9, 1997 - Sunday
Supper Bechtel International
Center
- This event was a big
success. 48 people came to
enjoy samples of Iranian
food. The proceeds of this
event was donated for the
victims of February 28
earthquake in northwestern
Iran. Food sale amounted to
$352.
- March 14, 1997 -
Iran
Earthquake Fundraising
White Plaza.
- We set up a table in
White Plaza to collect
donations from Stanford
community for the February
28th devastating earthquake
in Ardebil. Thanks to all
enthusiastic people who
participated in the event,
we raised a total of $920
was raised.
- April 27, 1997 -
Talk by Dr. Elahi Ghomshei ,
Oak East Hall, Tresidder Union,
Stanford University.
- Dr. Elahi Ghomshei gave
a marvelous talk for the
audience of about 100
students and Bay Area
residents. He talked about
the meaning of "love" in
Rumi's poems.
- May 15, 1997 - Talk by
Jahanshah Javid Bechtel
International Center
- Jahanshah Javid, editor
of Iranian,
an online publication
dedicated to Iranian
issues, gave a delightful
talk on his experiences and
discussed issues in
publishing and in general
Iranian community in the
United States. About 35
showed up and 20 of us went
to a local restaurant for
dinner with Jahanshah.
- May 17, 1997 - International
Festival Bechtel International
Center
- Under the extreme heat,
our wonderful volunteers,
prepared and sold food to
the public. The food was
very good, thanks to Amir,
Mina, Faranak, Mahmood,
Hamid, Babak, Nogol, Ali,
Ardavan, Kamyar, and many
many more wonderful people.
We also featured Iranian
crafts and books to show
our cultural heritage.
Iranian live music,
santoor, was played by
Mohammad Saidabadi.
