President's Scholars

Research Resources
Research opportunities here at Stanford are plentiful. We encourage you to approach the faculty to discuss possible research projects. You may find these following sites useful in getting your Intellectual Exploration started.

  • Odyssey/Iliad Databases
Databases with ready-made faculty research opportunities and links to faculty websites.

  • Faculty Research Directory
Searchable database of faculty in biological sciences and medicine (including links to MEDLINE articles.)

  • Undergraduate Research Programs (URP)
The URP website has advice on connecting with faculty and information on ready made research opportunities and other sources of funding. Check under the Student Grants link.

You can request a PS Mentor to help you focus your research ideas.Students who have already used their PS grants have shared their suggestions as to what they wish they had known at the start of their intellectual exploration.

  • Sample PS Projects
As President's Scholars complete their exploration projects, we are asking for a digital sample to share as examples of what can be done:

Justin Der (PS 2001) investigated why American-born Chinese pastors were dropping out of ministry in Chinese churches.

Ying-zong Huang (PS 2004) researched Wu phonology in the context of Chinese dialects.

Michelle Keller (PS 2005) investigated the current status of nutrition and health in Austria.

Melissa Khoo (PS 2003) did archaeology at the Great St. Bernard Pass on Switzerland and researched the possibility that the monastery there was the prototype for the monastery in Umberto Eco's novel In the Name of the Rose.

Lindsay Penrose (PS 2003) studied the early Christian church in Italy.

Justin Vandenbroucke (PS 2002) studied the relationship between Physics and Buddhism during a trip to Nepal.

Steven Young (PS 2003) attended an international conference on Bioinformatics.
