What
are Primes Workshops?
In
each 2-hour workshop, parents and kids do a fun or useful activity
and then learn how mathematics was used to get the job done. Then
the host leads a discussion and shows a video, connecting workshop
activities to middle school mathematics. Finally, everyone leaves
with activities to do at home. |

Workshop
Goals
Primes workshops help parents change the way they think,
feel and act about math. They demonstrate connections between school
mathematics and everyday life problem solving. Parents learn how to
build on their everyday thinking skills to help their children really
understand math and succeed in school. |
Helping
parents understand current teaching
Many math classrooms across the country are changing; they are more
exciting, more inclusive, more oriented toward really understanding
math. Primes workshops provide a foundation for parents to understand
these changes in their children's school math. |
