Lost Jobs in Minnesota

Minnesota lost 2,200 jobs in September, despite adding 1,000 manufacturing jobs the same month, and state officials warn that high fuel prices could dampen hiring.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) reported Tuesday that Minnesota had 17,900 more jobs than in September 2003, but, reflecting a national trend, seasonally adjusted data show employment in the state is at the same level as in May.

"The world isn't coming to an end because of 2,200 jobs," said state economist Tom Stinson. "The problem is that it's an indication that the economy is pretty sluggish."
