I'm running Windows 95/98/ME/2000.
What should I do? If your office computer is running Windows 95/98/ME/2000, we have no instructions for you that are specific to the printer in the graduate student lounge. That said, you may be able to adapt the detailed XP instructions. And the basic routine remains the same regardless of which version of Windows you're running. Instructions from the Brown University Chemistry Department may also help. |

If you are running Mac OS X 10.1 or above, you should be able to access
the printer with no additional software. The printer is available via
a Samba (SMB) share, and Mac OS X 10.1 and up come with SMB capabilities.
If you are running an earlier version of Mac OS, don't lose faith: a program
like Sharity or Dave might be able to help you. We have no detailed instructions on connecting Macs to the printer, but
the HOWTO
on OS X and SMB offers much advice. |

I'm using a notebook with a wireless Ethernet connection. Apart from printing, it works well in Encina. But I can't print while I'm using my wireless connection. If you have a firewall enabled, disable it and see if it fixes the problem. Of course, we don't recommend keeping your firewall disabled. Whether or not that works, send a message to John Bullock. Mention your wireless IP, your operating system, your firewall situation, and whether or not you can see anything in the stanford workgroup. |

When I try to print, or when I try to examine the printer queue, I get a message saying "Access denied, unable to connect." Ignore it. It won't keep you from printing. It may keep you from viewing the print queue. We hope to have the problem fixed soon.

It still doesn't work. Who provides technical support for this printer? You do. There is no dedicated support for the printer, and the students
on the 4th floor may be its only users. If you have problems that this
FAQ can't solve, your best bet is to consult with other students in the
office. Start by finding a computer that can print to the printer with ease. Try to duplicate its settings.
Also be sure to avail yourself of Google. It was created by Stanford graduate students just like us. If the students in the office can't help you, Google surely can. |
