About PES
Welcome to Peruanos en Stanford, the Stanford Association
of Peruvian Students!
You can find more specific information following these links:
About PES:
Our association was established in 2002 by a small group of active Peruvian
graduate students. Nowadays, most of our "Fundadores" are part of the
Stanford Alumni community. PES is one of the
student organizations at Stanford
University. We currently have about 11 full
members and more than 20 associate members.
Most of us are Peruvians, but we also come from pretty much all other parts of
the world. While the larger part of our members are
graduate students, it would not be fair to say we are just a graduate
student group, because many of us are undergrads and also Peruvian spouses and
friends.
We have a tradition of organizing a variety of
events. Some have become a tradition in themselves. For example, in
October (Autumn Quarter), we have the Pisco Sour & Cebiche Festival during
a weekend day close to the Peruvian Dia de la Cancion Criolla. In February
(Winter Quarter) we celebrate the Peruvian Carnivals with typical food, customs
and music. On June 24th's week (Spring Quarter), we share our Andean roots and
Amazon heart in the Dia del Indio Festival. And everybody always wait for our
big July 28th celebration, the Peruvian Independence Day, in the middle of the
summer.
During the term, we also treat ourselves to shorter excursions
to various interesting places in Bay Area and Northern California, like Lake
Tahoe, Yosemite, Napa Valley, Santa Cruz, Monterrey or San Francisco.
At PES we also have a liking for sports and, this coming
academic year, we will try to have volleyball and soccer teams in the
Stanford's Intramurals. Check them out, or tell us about your sport!
A final note about PES: all the fun that we provide is
the result of our members participation, and very importantly, the initiative
of a bunch of us who take the lead and put the act together. Do you want to
organize an event with PES? It's a lot fun, and we can help you! Do get in
touch with us!
