San Diego county's intervention plan includes two
components, provider education and case management.
-
The provider education intervention consists
of a training, given by county staff, on the legal responsibility
to offer an HIV test to pregnant women, recommendations for HIV
VCT, an update on therapy to prevent vertical transmission, and
local perinatal HIV data. The training is being offered to all
perinatal providers in the county.
-
The case management intervention involves compensating
existing case management programs for gathering data on pregnant
women and referring them to counseling and testing programs. The
program is especially aimed at pregnant teens and women in treatment
for substance abuse problems.
