Stanford University, in collaboration with the Office of AIDS and five California County Health Departments, is one of 16 grantees in a CDC nationwide perinatal prevention project. The purpose of this project is to prevent perinatal HIV transmission by providing non-threatening and accessible perinatal HIV preventions services and risk reduction information to pregnant women from all sociodemographic populations within California. The project is based in five California counties with technical assistance provided by epidemiologists at Stanford University.

Where are we now?

First Phase of the Intervention Implementation

January-June, 2002

Steps to be taken:

  • Meet with collaborating organizations, community advisory groups, etc., to review implementation plan and pool resources;
  • Create or collect remaining necessary educational and training materials;
  • Pilot test interventions with target groups (clients or providers);
  • Continue to create a data monitoring and evaluation plan as well as data collection forms in collaboration with Stanford;
  • Closely monitor implementations and adapt data collection instruments or protocol as needed in conjunction with Stanford.
