M.Sc. Leiden University, Medical Molecular Biology
Ph.D. Utrecht University, Immunogenetics

Dr Blokhuis is interested in complex interactions of our immune system, its evolution, and the recognition of self versus non-self.

He received his PhD from Utrecht University, having performed his research at the Netherlands Biomedical Primate Research Centre. Here, he elucidated the architecture of the rhesus macaque KIR gene system. As a postdoctoral researcher, he investigated the evolution and function of the KIR and MHC systems in different macaque species in a high-throughput manner. Upon joining the Parham Lab in 2012, he now focuses on Human natural killer cells, their interactions and the function of KIR in this context.
