Biblical Counseling Equiping Seminar: Presentation and discussion of the vital insights God has given us in Romans 5-8 regarding "How (not what) to Change", i.e., after God and I (not to mention various people around me) have agreed on what we want to see changed in my life - how do I actually make it happen in practice? Romans is truly a gold mine of fascinating theological doctrine. But that is not the purpose for which Paul says he wrote it. He says the objective of his ministry in general and his letter to the Christians at Rome in particular is to bring about the "obedience of faith". That is, his objective is to teach those who are already believers the principles and simple practical steps that apply to every possible specific issue, as we desire to change our lives from the walking death of what comes naturally to all of us, to powerfully living out the glorious and fruitful life that was demonstrated in Jesus and can be reproduced by His Spirit in us as well. We used the book that Steve & Erica are developing as material to read and consider in preparation, then focused our study time together on the Biblical text itself that gives us God's exact instructions through Paul.
Who: Open to all current Stanford Students, undergraduate and graduate
(spouses also welcomed, whether Stanford students or not).
When & Where: Wednesday evenings, 7-9 PM, History 124

Seminars for Personal Growth and Equipping to Minister to Others: One-time seminars on specific issues that are common to most of our life experiences and those around us, focusing on practical insights and wisdom that God has given us in a relevant passage of scripture to help us appropriate the opportunities inherent in the challenge for real life for ourselves, our relationships, and our ministries to others. Popular topics from past years (some of which might be repeated) have included: "How Modern Saints Can Love Their Valentines", "Freedom to Forgive, Freedom to Love", "Leaving and Yet Honoring Parents", "Dealing with Anger", "Roommates: Friendship, Frustration, and Fellowship", "Victory over Habits", "Motivation in Study, the Lab, and the Workplace", "Freedom from Image, Exercise and Eating Patterns", "How to Identify a Prospective Life Partner", etc.
Who: Open to all current Stanford students, undergraduate and graduate
(spouses also welcomed, whether Stanford students or not)
When & Where: Mostly during noon hours on individual dates, locations TBA - check back here for more info.

About the Instructors
Both Steve and Erica have special gifts to help bring these profound
insights in the Bible to light. Steve is one of the most careful
expositors of the Scriptures that I know, and Erica has her own sweet
way of sharing how these Scriptures apply to our down-to-earth lives.
The examples given are often taken from their own experiences and
struggles, and they are very specific and practical. What I especially
enjoyed was how both shared funny situations (at least in hindsight!) that all
of us deal with, but somehow are seldom communicated with clarity in a large
group setting.
