What: “Sailor Moon R: Promise of the Rose” “Sailor Moon R: The Promise of the Rose” (1993) is considered one of the best Sailor Moon movies. The Sailor Moon series was a great introduction to shojo anime that got quite a number of young girls (and a few guys too) hooked onto anime. In the movie, Kisenian, disguised as a meteor, aims to steal the Earth’s positive energy and replace it with hate. For February 10, we’ll be screening “Yu Yu Hakusho: Poltergeist Report.” Where: Asian Activities Center (see eflyer for directions) Our first movie in the series is “Porco Rosso” (Kurenai no buta), directed by Hayao Miyazaki, director of award-winning “Spirited Away” and “Princess Mononoke.” Summary: In Early 1930’s era Italy, air pirates, bounty hunters and high fliers of all sorts rule the skies. The most cunning and skilled of these pilots is Porco Rosso, a man cursed with the head of a pig after watching the spirits of the pilots killed in the last air battle he fought in rise to the heavens. He now makes a living taking jobs, such as rescuing those kidnapped by air pirates. Donald Curtis, Porco’s rival in the air and in catching the affections of women, provides a constant challenge to the hero, culminating in a hilarious, action packed finale. Deadlines
