How to Get an Account

If you had an active account in the previous version of NetDB (the telnet version, version 2), you will automatically be assigned an account in the current version, NetDB 3 (web interface).

Requirements for a NetDB Account:

  • You are a local network administrator (LNA), administer a large number of machines (system or lab administrator) or need to change IP addresses often (ITSS staff)
  • You have a valid sunetid
  • Your email and business phone number are accessible in StanfordWho to the Stanford community

To get an account, contact your network consultant or send email to Networking Systems.

How to Logon to NetDB version 3

NetDB version 3 has a web interface at http://netdb.stanford.edu. The telnet interface will no longer available once version 3 is released. NetDB version 3 is supported on the following platforms:

Windows: Netscape 3.x and later, Internet Explorer 4.x and later
Macintosh: Netscape 3.x and later
Unix: Netscape, Lynx

There are two ways to authenticate to NetDB: via (Mac- or PC-)Leland and via Stanford Web Authentication.

  • For Macintosh and Windows machines, login to MacLeland or PC-Leland. Open your web browser and go to http://netdb.stanford.edu; or
  • For Macintosh, Windows and Unix machines, open your web browser and go to http://netdb.stanford.edu. If you are not logged into MacLeland or PC-Leland (and choose not to, if prompted), you will be prompted to login with Stanford Web Authentication.

Your session will automatically end after one hour of inactivity. Any unsaved changes will be lost.
