Housing
- Where do I check in? Everyone staying in on-campus housing will check in at Elliot Program Center in Governor's Corner. Everyone will be housed in Governor's Corner.
- When can I check in? Standard check-in time will be from 10am until 10pm on Sunday, June 23. If you are arriving before or after scheduled check-in times, you will find a number on the front door listing a phone number where you can reach an on-duty staff member who will be able to check you in.
- Is there a deposit for keys? The fee for lost keys is $70. You must return your room key when you check out, or you will be charged $70 so the locks may be changed.
- Who do I call in an emergency? For any life-threatening emergency, call 9-911 from any campus phone or Door King unit to summon fire, police, and paramedic service. More information will be provided in the check-in package you receive from the residence office upon arrival.
The Stanford Area
- Who can I contact with questions? Feel free to stop by the NASSLLI Office is in Building 100, Room 101B. You can also call us there at (650)725-0108 (5-0108 from a campus phone). You can also email nasslli@csli.stanford.edu with questions.
- Where can I find information about parking? You can find some information about parking lots, parking permits, and how to purchase them at the Parking and Transportation Services website. Parking permits will not be provided for you. However, the residence office will be able to sell Conference Permits, which cost $3.50 per day, and are valid only in areas designated for `C', `Z', or `Residence' parking, and are only valid on the day specified on the permit.
- Where can I find information on public transit? Stanford runs a free shuttle, called the Marguerite. Information about routes and schedules can be found here. They also have a page with links to sites for transit in the Bay Area. This page is here.
- Where is food sold on campus? There is a cafeteria-style dining hall at Tressider Union, as well as a coffee house. Several smaller cafes are open, though their summer hours are uncertain. The Thai Cafe is in the basement of the Psychology Building, 420 in the Quad. Cubberley Cafe is in the Education Building and Bytes Cafe is in the Packard Electrical Engineering Building. - Are there computing facilities? The Department of Computer Science is kindly allowing NASSLLI participants to use one of their computer clusters, in Room B14 in the basement of the Gates Building. If you need access to these facilities, you will be able to obtain a user id and password for the week at breakfast and registration on Monday.
The Program
- Where do I go when I get here? We will be handing out registration packets and nametags on Monday morning at 8am, in the Linguistics patio. This is the same place where you can get coffee and bagels, and meet some of the other participants before the program starts. If you arrive later, go to the NASSLLI office, in in Building 100, Room 101B.
- How do I obtain course materials? We will sell booklets containing the lecture notes for the various classes. These will be sold at the cost of printing, and this might vary from class to class. Lecture notes will also be available online, on the course webpages. You may want to print these out beforehand and bring them with you in order to save money. They will be sold every day at breakfast, and at other times, at the NASSLLI Office, in Building 100, Room 101B.
- Do I get course credit for participating? If you are a Stanford student, and would like to participate in NASSLLI for credit, please contact us. All participants will receive certificates stating that they attended the school. If you need certification stating that you've completed specific classes, contact us as soon as possible.
- Where will the classes be held? Information on specific course locations is now up on the Timetable page.
- Do I have to register for classes? No, you do not have to register for classes. Participation is open for all NASSLLI participants.
