NACF Native American Christian issues page
Hi! This is NACF's web
page that addresses issues relevant to the coexistence
of Native American culture and Christian faith. Our plan is to research,
consider, discuss, and thoughtfully respond
to these issues.
NACF is the Native American Christian Fellowship at Stanford University.
Please also feel free to check out our
home page.
Following is an early first sketch of the issues that we plan to
discuss and address. Come back and visit often as it gets updated!
Outline of issues we plan to discuss
- Is Christianity European?
- Can one be both Christian and Native American at the same time?
- If so, how?
- What about traditional practices?
- Is accepting Christianity rejecting our culture?
- Missionaries
- What really happened?
- Can we take an informal poll with elders we know (both
Christian and non-Christian) to get more info?
- Focus on Family article
- Web
- Clay's report
- Separate by "religion" and time in history
- Christian's response -> forgiveness,...
- Questions about Native Americans who died before hearing the
gospel message.
- What about people who never heard/read the message of the Bible?
- Why do Native people need the message of Christianity?
- Really the same question as, "what happens to anyone who dies before
hearing".
- What is a Christian's response to injustice - both against themselves
and others?
- Unfair (though possibly "legal") taking of land
- Environmental racism
