Undergraduate Coursework

Undergraduates interested in studying anthropological genetics are encouraged to visit the Courses section of this web site. Students who have completed at least one course with Dr. Mountain are eligible to explore specific areas within the field via Directed Reading.

Undergraduate Research

Students interested in participating in molecular genetic or computational research are encouraged to contact Dr. Mountain via email. We generally have one to three undergraduates working part-time in the lab during the school year, and part or full-time during the summer. These students participate in a range of projects under the guidance of Dr. Mountain and other senior members of the lab. Preference is given to students who can commit to joining the lab for minimum of one year. Although priority is given to students with some research experience, we have included freshman and sophomores with no such experience. Students usually receive credit for participating in the research projects, but occasionally will receive an hourly wage. There are a number of funding opportunities for interested students (URO, Anthropological Sciences Mentored Research Grants, VPUE grants, NSF - REU grants).
