Your Chicken on v-Myb

normal blood smear

one week later

The normal chicken blood smear (left panel) one week after viral infection shows predominantly oval, nucleated red blood cells. The larger round cell is probably a lymphocyte and the smaller round cells are thrombocytes. One week later (right panel) the peripheral blood is filled with leukemic monoblasts, some of which display mitotic figures in which the chromosomes are separating from one another during cell division.

These photomicrographs were kindly provided by Marcel Baluda, UCLA School of Medicine, Los Angeles, CA.
