Click here to submit a pre-written letter urging your members of Congress to support full civil rights and democracy to our fellow American citizens who reside in Puerto Rico.
The U.S. House of Representatives has called for a vote on the Puerto Rico Democracy Act - HR 2499 - for this coming Thursday, April 29th. For 112 years, American citizens residing in Puerto Rico have been treated as second class citizens, including not being able to vote for the President and Members of Congress that enact their national laws. Now, the House of Representatives has legislation before it which would grant Puerto Ricans the ability to decide if they want to remain an unincorporated territory of the U.S., to be a state of the Union or an independent nation.
Just a couple of minutes of your time could make the difference in ending this sad chapter in our nation's history. Democrats have always been at the forefront of protecting our fellow citizens' civil rights, and have led the way in ending any discriminatory treatment in our nation. By submitting this letter, you can ensure that when this story is written in history it was because young Americans made their voices heard.
Thank you!!!
