Working Groups
Working Group grants will not be available for the 2009-2010 academic year.
A Working Group consists of a group of students, in collaboration with a faculty advisor, who wish to organize events such as lectures, speaker series, symposia, exchange of working papers, and collaborative research efforts. Typically, a Working Group plans topics for discussion, invites speakers from outside, and provides opportunities for Stanford students and faculty to present work-in-progress. Faculty, visiting scholars, graduate and professional school students, and undergraduates come together in multidisciplinary scholarly exchange of research-in-progress, culture, and perspectives on current events in Latin American topics.
Each Working Group is semi-autonomous and sets its own agenda. The Center for Latin American Studies furnishes each Working Group with financial and administrative support and helps it to integrate its activities with those sponsored directly by the Center. The number of themes and membership of the Working Groups change from year to year. Previous Working Groups have focused on such diverse themes as Andean Archaeology, Education in Latin America, Asians in Latin America, and Latin American Microfinance. Apart from a regional focus on Latin America, there are no limitations on a potential topic or agenda for a Working Group.
Grant awards range from $3,000 to $6,000. Applications are usually due in June. For more information, please contact Emily Davis, Program Coordinator.
