The Center for Latin American Studies brings leading Latin American scholars to Stanford University to teach, conduct research, and advise students in their particular areas of expertise. These experts are nominated by Stanford faculty and may stay at Stanford for one to three quarters. While at Stanford, Tinker Professors are expected to give a public talk at CLAS. Eligibility: Open to leading scholars or experts in any academic field. Nominees must be from a Latin American or an Iberian country (Spain or Portugal), or Canada. Canadian nominations are limited to experts on Latin American themes.

Nomination Process: Faculty in any department at Stanford are invited to nominate their peers from Latin America, Iberia, or Canada to come to Stanford to teach, research, and advise in their areas of expertise. Nomination information is available at Bolivar House.

Selection Criteria: Professorships will be granted to candidates who are distinguished in their fields and have the potential to contribute positively to the Stanford academic community. Nomination applications should include: a CV of the candidate, the proposed course the candidate would teach, and a supporting letter from the chair of the Department to which the candidate would be appointed.

Duration: Varies. Typically, an appointment lasts one or two quarters.

Deadline for Nominations: January 15, 2009 for the 2009-2010 academic year.
