*Note: Students are eligible to receive funding only if they will be enrolling as Stanford students the following academic year.

Graduate Research in Venezuela

The Center for Latin American Studies invites proposals for Stanford graduate student-led research in Venezuela.  Through a generous gift from the Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho Foundation, CLAS will distribute grants of up to $6,000.  Please submit a CV, brief proposal narrative, complete itemized budget, graduate transcripts, and a letter of recommendation from the thesis advisor to Megan Gorman at megorman@stanford.edu.

Applications are considered on a rolling basis throughout the year until funds expire.

Working Groups

Working Group grants will not be available for the 2009-2010 academic year.

A Working Group is a vehicle for undergraduate and graduate students, along with faculty and visiting scholars, to coordinate scholarly activities and research on a specific Latin American topic. CLAS provides financial and administrative support for a number of Working Groups each year. There are no limitations on a potential topic or agenda for a Working Group. Previous Working Groups have organized lectures, symposia, workshops, and collaborative research efforts on such diverse themes as Andean Archaeology, Education in Latin America, Asians in Latin America, and Latin American Microfinance.

Awards range from $3,000 to $6,000.

Undergraduate Summer Internship Grants

Each year CLAS offers grants to several undergraduate students interested in completing internships in Latin America. The next deadline to apply for either grant is Friday, April 3, 2009.

The Monica Miller Walsh Grants award up to $3,000 each to several students wishing to undertake an internship in Latin America.

The Pessoa-Trejos Grant awards up to $2,000 to a student wishing to undertake an internship in Brazil.

Ayacucho Fund for Graduate Study
