12/12 End of Year Schedule

Here’s the practice schedule for the rest of 2007.

This week (today-12/16): MWF 7-9pm, Sat 12-2 (open)

Next week (12/17-12/23): Mon, Wed 6-8pm, Fri 6:30-8pm, Sat 12-2 (open)

Also, PROMOTIONS this Friday (12/14), so come to practice!

12/2 CCSF Tournament

Stanford Judo completely dominated at the CCSF team tournament; Stanford won all three divisions!

Lightweight team took 1st: Kim W., Jon G., Ling S., Benros E., and Dan R. (first competition)!

Regular weight team took 1st: Rochelle N., Ariel J., Zach C., Ansley W., Phillip Y. (first competition)!

Brown belt team took 1st: Kim W., Matt M., Tony M., Ansley W., Phillip Y.!

Stanford also took all three trophies home because we won first place more than any other team in the last many years.

Congratulations to everybody! And thanks to all who went to support the team. Go Stanford Judo!

12/5 Practice

Wednesday only: practice begins at 7:30pm.

11/4 Monterey Tournament

The judo tournament in Monterey was pretty small, but Stanford Judo had a great showing!

Ansley took 1st in the men's white belt division.
Ben took 2nd in the men's white belt division.
Rochelle took 2nd in the women's green and brown belt division.
Zach took 3rd in the men's green and brown belt division.

And from the Stanford Junior Team:

Eric C., age 13, took 2nd in the boy's white belt division.
Gregory W., age 8, took 2nd in the boy's white, yellow, and orange belt division.
Marijane W., age 7, took 3rd in the girl's white belt division.
Alex C., age 11, took 3rd in the boy's green belt division.
Ray I., age 9, took 4th in the boy's white, yellow, and orange belt division.
Alex C., age 8, took 4th in the boy's white and yellow belt division.
Ryan O., age 13, took 2nd in the boy's blue and purple belt division.
Eric O., age 9, took 1st in the boy's green belt division.

10/21 Albany Tournament

Stanford Judo had many competitors at the Albany tournament this past Sunday. And some of the toughest matches were Stanford vs. Stanford!

Ling took 1st and Jon Gaw 2nd in the men's green belt division. Kim took 1st and Rochelle 2nd in the women's orange and green belt division. Ansley took 1st in the men's white and yellow belt division.

And congrats to the Stanford Junior Team competitors:

Alex C., age 8, took 1st in the boy's yellow belt division. Ryan O, age 13, took 2nd in the boy's blue belt division. Max I., age 5, took 4th in the boy's white belt division. Luca, age 8, took 4th in the boy's white belt division. Marijane W., age 7, fought hard in two matches before the judges realized that they accidentally placed her in a pool of 11-year-old girls with years more experience.

10/7 Sacramento Tournament

Stanford Judo dominated at the judo tournament in Sacramento this past Sunday!!

 Ansley took 2^nd in the men's white belt division. Rochelle Nguyen took 1^st in the women's white, orange, and green belt division. Ling took 4^th in the men's green belt division. Matt took 2^nd in the men's brown belt division.

 And from the Stanford Junior Team:

Marijane W., age 7, took 3^rd in the girl's white and yellow belt division!

9/23 Welcome Back, Welcome Beginners

Beginners are always welcome, and this week we expect to have a lot as the academic year begins. So come learn about Judo, or come help out. Saturday practices resume in October.

7/4 Summer Schedule

No practice today (enjoy your barbeque!). We are having regular practices MWF 7-9pm and the Kid's class on Fridays, 5-7pm.

6/9 El Salvador

Congrats to Erik Duus, who won his first international title, taking gold at 90kg at the II Copa Yaniro Ramos Vigil in San Salvador, El Salvador. The top eight ranked U.S. judokas in their division as of April 12, 2008 will receive invitations to the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – June 13-14 in Las Vegas. According to USA Judo, Duus will become seventh-ranked in his weight class on the next USA Judo Senior Elite National Roster.

6/3 Santa Clara PAL Judo Tournament

Congratulations to all who competed!

Stanford Judo Club results: Jon - 1^st in the men's green belt division, Koji Ueunten – 1^st in the men's brown belt division, Rochelle – 1^st in the women's blue and purple belt division, Marc – 2^nd in the men's black belt division, Bert – 3^rd in the men's green belt division, Chris – 3^rd in the men's white belt division, Ron – 3^rd in the men's black belt division, Zach – 4^th in the men's green belt division.

Congrats also to members of the Stanford Junior Team who competed: Alex C.– 1^st place, Eric O. – 1^st place, Eric C.– 2^nd place, MariJane W.– 4^th place.

5/20 CCSF Team Tournament

Team competition:

Our light-weight team took 1st place: Rochelle, Ling, Jon, Ron, and Jules!

Our regular-weight team won 2 matches and lost 2, but had to forfeit a match, so they took 3rd place: Ricky, Ansley, Chris, and Mohamed!

Our brown-belt team took 1st place: Jordan, Mike R., Shane, Koji, and Mohamed!

Individual competition:

Ansley took 2nd in the men's white and green belt division!

Mike R. took 2nd in the men's brown belt division!

Mohamed took 2nd in the men's heavyweight division!

Chris took 3rd in the men's white and green belt division!

Ron took 3rd in the men's brown belt division on Saturday and 1st in the men's black belt division on Sunday!

Marc took 3rd in the men's black belt division!

Kids competition:

Luca, age 5, took 1st place!

Jacob, age 5, took 2nd place!

Alex C., age 7, took 2nd place!

Alex C., age 10, took 3rd place!

4/29 Sacramento

Stanford Judo did a great job at Sunday’s tournament in Sacramento! Congratulations to all who competed! Jules – 1st place in the men's green, blue, brown, and black belt division, Rochelle – 1st place in the women's white and yellow belt division, Zachary – 2nd place in the men's white and yellow belt division, Kim – 2nd place in the women's green and brown belt division, Ron – 3rd place in the men's green and brown belt division, Lisamaria – 3rd place in the women's black belt division, Bert – 4th place in the men's green, blue, brown, and black belt division, and Ling – 4th place in the men's white and yellow belt division.

Congrats to members of the Stanford Junior Team who competed: Eric O., age 9 – 1st place in the orange, green, and blue belt division, Ryan O., age 13 – 2nd place in the purple belt division, Sierra Y., age 10 – 2nd place in the orange, green, and blue belt division, and Austin W., age 10 – 3rd place in the orange, green, and blue belt division.

4/20 Senior Nationals

Stanford Judo’s Erik Duus placed 5th in his division (Male, 90 kg) at the USA Judo Senior Nationals competition in Miami, Florida, this past Friday, April 20, 2007. Erik also earned one point towards his national ranking, putting him even closer to making it to the U.S. Olympic trials. Congratulations, Erik!

5/13 Kid's Clinic

Spring Break Schedule

There will be no formal practices held during Stanford's spring break, starting this Saturday 3/24 through Saturday 3/31, but you are more than welcome to use the room to work out during usual practice time. Regular practices for Spring quarter resume on Monday, April 2.

3/11 Cupertino

Congratulations to everyone who competed at the Cupertino Tournament on Sunday! Jon G.– 3rd place in the white belt division, 125 lbs. Ling – 4th place in the white belt division, 121 lbs. Bert– 1st place in the green belt division, 140 lbs. Ron – 4th place in the brown belt division, 125 lbs. Jules – 4th place in the brown belt division, 145 lbs. Mike R. – 3rd place in the brown belt division, 149 lbs. JP – 3rd place in the brown belt division, 189 lbs. And congrats to the members of the Stanford Junior Team who competed! Congratulations to all of our competitors in the San Jose Buddhist Tournament! Athena – 1st place in the women’s orange, green, and purple belt division Kim – 2nd place in the women’s orange, green, and purple belt division Jules – 1st place in the men’s green belt division Ricky – 3rd place in the men’s white belt division Koji – 2nd place in the men’s brown belt division Greg, Bert, and Rochelle also competed on Sunday. 1/21 Stanford Kids Judo Tournament

Congratulations to all of our competitors from from Stanford Judo Club, Cahill’s Judo Academy, Team Brewer’s Karate School, and Ralph Gracie Jiujitsu for a great tournament! Some pictures -- more coming soon.

Stanford Kids Judo Tournament

To promote competitive judo, Stanford Judo Club will be hosting a tournament for junior judoka at the Arrillaga Center for Sports and Recreation. Everyone in and around the Stanford community is welcome to watch matches from around 10:00am-2:00pm. All competitors under 15 years are welcome.
