He’s tanned,he’s rested, he’s back ….. Twentieth century icon John Maynard Keynes (1883-1946) has lately become an object of renewed interest. Alternately vilified and admired, the preeminent economist has resurfaced as a living force during the current economic crisis. In the 1930s Keynes pioneered the concept of government intervention to stimulate moribund economies, and his was a major voice at the influential Bretton Woods conference in the 1940s. Opponents of Keynes have included Austrian economist and Nobel laureate Friedrich von Hayek, among others, and the ongoing debate has been furthered by some recent new books, such as Robert Skidelsky’s Keynes: The Return of the Master. Is JMK back for good?
