Description
PC-Leland gives you the ability to login automatically to a variety of Stanford University computer services. With PC-Leland, you can login once to your PC desktop, and have that login shared across multiple applications and services running on SUNet (the Stanford University Network). The PC-Leland application provides key authentication and encryption services for PCs running Windows.
System Requirements
- Supported Operating Systems: Windows XP/2000/ Me
- Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher installed
Notes
All users:
-
PC-Leland Expiration Warning: Users of PC-Leland 2.1.4 may see a warning about PC-Leland expiring. If you see see this warning, you can run a tool to patch your existing version of PC-Leland to remove the error or you can run the latest installer.
- If you have an earlier version of PC-Leland installed on your computer, you do not need to uninstall it; PC-Leland 2.1.4 will do this for you.
- Before you can install PC-Leland 2.1.4 you must have Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher installed on your computer. (Internet Explorer 6 is recommended.) Even if you
do not use Internet Explorer as your browser, IE contains certain files that are required by PC-Leland 2.1.4.
- Check your anti-virus
software. If you have a retail version of Norton AntiVirus 2000, Norton AntiVirus
2001, or PC-Cillin installed on your computer and have email check invoked
(usually the default), you are likely to get a canonical server error when
you try to check your POP email. The fix is to remove the email check if the
antivirus software is still up to date or to uninstall the offending anti-virus
software and replace it with Symantec AntiVirus Corporate
Edition.
Windows XP users:
- The "Fast User Switching" feature in Windows XP allows multiple user accounts to log on to a computer simultaneously. It is then possible to switch between the accounts without logging off. PC-Leland 2.1.4 supports the basic features of Windows XP but does not work properly with
"Fast User Switching." The first user will be able to log on to PC-Leland and work normally, but anyone trying to log in after that will find PC-Leland unavailable. ITSS recommends that you disable the "Fast User Switching" feature. See Instructions for Disabling "Fast User Switching" in XP.
Windows 2000 users:
- You must use PC-Leland version 2.1.3 or 2.1.4 if you are running Windows 2000 Service Pack 4. Service Pack 4 is not compatible with earlier versions of PC-Leland.
