"SiliconBase Help"

General Overview

Caveat Videor

Siliconbase is an experimental website which relies in part on non-commercial Stanford software. We make every effort to maintain it, but we cannot guarantee that everything will always work as advertised.

If you run into problems these help pages cannot resolve, the first thing to do is quit and try again later. The most likely culprit is a temporary system failure in part of our networked library.

Basic Organization

SiliconBase presents its tools and materials through two broad categories: guided tours and the workspace.

The Workspace: The Workspace contains tools for networked scholarly research on information technology and society. These tools include a multimedia archive of some 2000 documents, search engines, courseware, and World Wide Web indexes.

Guided Tours: Scholars, industry experts, and students introduce the technologies and concepts that have shaped the digital age in short, highly organized multimedia presentations. These introductions also contain pointers to source materials stored in the SiliconBase archives and at other WWW sites.
