Academic Technology Specialist at IRiSS
IRiSS is pleased to welcome Vijoy Abraham, who joins the staff as the Academic Technology Specialist for the Institute. Vijoy comes to us after five years of work fostering technology use in teaching and research with the Department of Psychology. Projects Vijoy has worked on include the specification of laboratory testing room computing, audio, and video hardware, developing a department-wide survey creation service for survey data collection via the Web, helping to create a multi-media lab where audio, video, and images can be edited and mastered onto CD or DVD, and implementing a web-based scheduling system for the participant pool used in the Introduction to Psychology Course (PsychOne)

Vijoy will initiate conversations and surveys among the faculty in order to assess the next-generation computing infrastructure to serve social science research, and the establishment of a shared IT platform at IRiSS. He also will field requests for academic technology support across the social sciences, prioritizing his efforts where his support can serve multiple faculty research projects. As an example, he is aware of an interest in shared approaches and applications for managing experiment subject pools. We invite faculty and to discuss with him the broad needs of the social science researcher and how these needs can be addressed across departments.
