was hosted by Berkeley INFORMS on March 1st. keynote speaker, Professor Bruce Schmeiser from Purdue University gave
tips on how to be a successful graduate student. Rhonda Righter from Santa
Clara University gave an
invited talk on "Dynamic Load Balancing with Flexible Workers", and
Carrie Beam from Carrie Beam Consulting shared her experience on how it was
like to start your own consulting company.
There was also panel discussion on "Looking Beyond
the Job Search". Student presentation competition and case study
competition were held afterwards. PRISMS
2004 may be at Stanford again. Gary will
coordinate this with the other interested schools.
ORMS tomorrow
Our
chapter activities will be showcased again in the next edition of ORMS tomorrow.
Brown Bag Research Talks
Ting
is trying to acquire more abstracts and titles for future brown bag research
talks. Gary will
send out a call for abstracts for next quarter's Brown Bag lunches.
Treasurer report
Mark
reports on the financial situation of Stanford INFORMS
Announcement
Gary will be
leaving to Switzerland for the
coming spring quarter, which means that the INFORMS president will not be
present on campus from April to June in 2003. Ting will fill in his position
during this period. As far as possible
with email and fax, Gary will
still be point of contact for national INFORMS.
Spring Quarter Events
Gary will
send out call-for-papers emails for brown bag research talk -- remotely. We
plan to have an ice cream party event in the spring quarter. Logistics on the
location need to be taken care of.
