Harlan Crowder will give a talk on Wednesday of Oct. 30 2002, GESB 124, 1:15pm.

First Brown Bag Research Talk

Our first brown bag research talk had 15 attendees, including 2 Ph.D. student from GSB and two MS students. Next time we need to remember to post flyers in addition to sending out emails.

First Undergraduate Luncheon

.The first undergraduate lunchon meeting will be with Prof. Sam Chiu on Oct 29th at the Faculty club. Space is limited to 10 and it is on a first come first served basis. Our department sponsors two such luncheons per quarter.

First Year PhD Welcome Event

We had a big discussion on how to host a first year Ph.D. welcome event.  The questions were what sort of value would this event add, and what kind of event it should be. Eventually we voted that a general event would be more appropriate at this point. We plan to have a Frisbee golf event at the beginning of November. Also, we are looking for the opportunities of a

plant tour (Mark will check with Intel and Cisco, Bernard with SUN, and Gary with Applied Materials and NVMM).

San Jose INFORMS Conference shuttle

Mark has checked with the Marguerite shuttle about the possibility of chartering a shuttle to the San Jose INFORMS conference meeting. For a shuttle with 25-30 passengers the cost will be $75/hr and $150 one way. It seems that carpooling would be financially more attractive. INFORMS can coordinate carpool arrangements.
