Stanford has several different versions of the signature for different design needs. Together, they comprise a consistent signature system.

Stanford University Signature The Stanford University signature shown here is the preferred version for use on all Stanford University communications. The signature is constructed of three elements: a specially designed typographic rendition of the name Stanford University, the Stanford seal and a tapered underscore. These three elements work together to create a readily identifiable graphic representation of Stanford. The signature artwork is available to download in several file formats and colors. Please do not alter the signature artwork or colors. | |

Stanford School and Program Signatures A signature has been designed for use with the names of Stanford's schools and independent programs. These signatures should be used in place of the Stanford University signature on all communications that are produced by the schools or approved programs. The signature artwork is available to download in several file formats and colors. Please do not alter the signature artwork or colors in any way. If artwork for your program is not available for download, please contact the Director of Business Development at trademarks@stanford.edu or (650) 723-3331 before creating a signature for your program, in order to adapt the artwork appropriately. | |

Horizontal Signature Horizontal versions of the Stanford University signature and the school/program signatures are available for use on communications where a strong horizontal layout space is available, such as horizontal signs and web banners. The horizontal versions of the signatures are considered to be alternate versions, and should be used only when a vertical version can not be comfortably placed into the available space. The signature artwork is available to download in several file formats and color versions. Color guidelines for the standard version of the signature apply to the horizontal version, as well. Please do not alter the signature artwork or colors. | |

Signature without Seal A version of the Stanford University signature and the school/program signatures without a seal are available for use on low-resolution communications where the Stanford University seal can not be clearly reproduced, when available space does not allow for inclusion of the seal, or when use of the seal is not appropriate from a design perspective. The signature artwork is available to download in several file formats and color versions. Please do not alter the signature artwork or colors. | |

Signature with Block "S" with Tree In some situations, the informal Stanford Block "S" with Tree is a more appropriate emblem than the seal. A version of the signature with the Stanford Block "S" with Tree is available for use in these communications. There is no vertical version of the signature with Block "S" symbol; it is always shown in a horizontal configuration. Schools and academic programs should not use this version of the signature. The signature artwork is available to download in several file formats and color versions. Please do not alter the signature artwork or colors. This version of the signature can be used with the words Stanford University, or it can be combined with a non-academic department or program name, such as "Facilities and Operations." | |

Use with Other Emblems Many departments and programs at Stanford have their own graphic identity. Stanford University signatures and emblems can be used with these other emblems to help reinforce an association with Stanford and lend authenticity to the communication. Please try to incorporate the Stanford signature or other emblem into your communication whenever possible. | |
